St. Patrick's Day has become a celebration of all things Irish. Most public celebrations are great amounts of alcohol. Many families serve corned beef, cabbage and mint chocolate pies every year on March 17. And some cities like Chicago turn large bodies of water green to commemorate St. Patrick's life.
"But who was St. Patrick. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is one of the most important figures in Christianity modern. He was born to British aristocrats in the fourth century, as in most aristocratic families at that time, Patrick as a son later was appointed for the priesthood so that tax incentives rich family. When I was 16 years old, was captured by Irish raiders and held for six years. During this time, he became more spiritual as he was a lone shepherd and his faith to keep it strong.

He became a figure that was larger than life, and it is believed that many completed almost impossible feats, including the expulsion of the snakes and the abolition of the Druids at Tara. His influence on all things Christian in Ireland, however, is unmistakable. He can be uniquely credit by the spread of Christianity throughout Ireland.
St. Patrick s Day New York cityThe Cathedral St. Patrick first held in New York on 17 March 1762. Irish soldiers serving in the British Army in the American colonies marched through the streets of New York to celebrate their Irish homeland which had long have been absent. St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan is a majestic reminder of the history of the Irish in New York.
While States America grew, so did the Irish population. Throughout the late 18th century, Irish Aid Societies, as the Sons of St. Patrick's friendship will be held annual parades of the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. These parades came to include bagpipes and drums, although they were known more as a custom bagpipes Scottish Irish.
When the potato famine success in 1845, nearly a million poor Irish in America heard. Unlike its predecessors Protestant middle class, these immigrants were Catholic and often uneducated. They found great difficulty in finding work, and were ridiculed in public and the press as drunken monkeys with indecipherable accents. During this time, the celebrations of St. Patrick's day was calmer.
In the 20th century, however, the population Irish in the United States realized they were large in number and therefore had the power to vote. He began to court public opinion and became across a political machine. When Harry S. Truman attended New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1948, many Irish-Americans knew they were in the latter part of an acceptance of American culture.
In Ireland itself, St. Patrick's Day was traditionally a religious holiday. In fact, until mid of the 1970s, Irish law dictated that all pubs and bars that had to be closed. In 1995, however, the Irish government began to use St. Patrick's Day as a driver for tourism as people from around the world clamored for all things Irish. St Patrick's Festival in Dublin, now attracts more 1 million people in a multi-day celebration with parades, concerts and fireworks.
In homes around the world, St. Patrick's Day takes place without the heavy alcohol use. Many Irish Catholic families celebrate with a day of prayer. Families cook traditional Irish feast of canned beef cow veal (also known as Irish bacon), cabbage and soda bread. Many of these families end the night with a little coffee with Irish cream and cake chocolate cake liberally saturated with mint flavoring. These traditions are passed from generation to generation, and are revered as much as if not more, than the debauchery alcoholic who knows so well.
